Book Signings of Authors 4 Charity
|
Below are some of the book signings for members of Authors 4 Charity. If you hold a book signing, take a couple of photos to be included here.
Asheville Mall Book Signing
Our charity was for Make A Wish Foundation. They came to the signing, had their table set up to pass out literature. We had great products that we raffled off to help raise money for them that were donated by local merchants. We had a sponsor there from the Charity with her brochures and she stayed until the end of the two day signing. All the money from the raffles were given to this charity, along with a percent from all the authors who participated.

California Book Signing
Ken Goldstein One more Authors
for Charity event completed, with some minor success. It turned out we were in
competition with an Octoberfest celebration going on about a mile down the road
(and screwing up traffic), but we still brought some people into the store and
generated a couple-dozen sales. Participating
were: Beth Elliott, Jack Schroder, Angelia Almos, Morgiana Storm
Celestine, Sandy Fox, Anne Silber, and Ken Goldstein (me). Anne and
I sold the most books, but each author sold at least a couple.
Proceeds from this charity book signing and reading event went to benefit Future Families. Future Families is a foster care/adoption agency that has been serving the San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas since 1984. Future families recruits, trains and supports families willing to open their homes to children who have been removed from their homes due to neglect or abuse. These children deserve loving, caring homes and parents who are willing to help become part of the team to help them heal from past events.

My arrangement with the bank is that on Monday the 29th I will set up a card table draped with a large pirate flag. On it will be a treasure chest, some of my nautical items, hand out copies of my newsletter, interview, a book review and a stack of bookmarks. These will be on display with colored posters each day until the Friday signing. I am hoping to generate enough interest during the week that some of the bank customers will return Friday for a signed book. I have pledged $5 from each book to the March of Dimes.
Last Friday, October 3rd, I held a book signing at the Compass Bank in St.
Augustine, Fla. I thought it might be a good location to expose the
book to more people. I sold a few but now think a busy bank on a
Friday when everyone is trying to cash their check might not be the
best place to find folks interested in buying a book.
We met lots of nice people and laid some seeds for future
opportunities so all was not lost.
Attached are some photos of our set up in the banks lobby.
We will be sure to report on our next book signing adventure.

I raised over $2000 between t-shirt sales and book sales. I also had a great sales and pr team besides an exciting booth. I researched "book fairs" by state and contacted the organization. It cost me $795.00 for the booth plus the additional out of pocket expense for books and t-shirts.- I decided to create a booth based on my underlying themes: love, lust, death, sex, life... real life and I wanted the booth to emulate my book logo, cover, etc (Decorating is my passion and design is soon to be my profession as I am a design student). Based on a comment by my mother " It's like a Fellini movie"- I created various vignettes: the empty picture frames below a photo of me with the boys ( whose eyes were cut out, faces blurred, images distorted); 2.the black velvet chaise lounge with the red rose petals and one martini glass, open book; 3. 200 plus red roses ( the first line of my book and the last line: red roses-long stem. 4. The free standing mirror with catch phrase written in red lipstick:"
Have you ever been in love- I have or so I thought..and so on and so on...". 5. The mannequib wearing a wedding dress and "whore" t-shirt. As for signing books- my fans were very much into "meeting the author." What really made this event a success was the outgoing team I had with me wearing "whore by default" t-shirts ( even my mother and pregnant sister) with "why is it you play with lust, frolic with desire but have to work so hard at love?" written on the back, the bookmarks and pamphlets handed out at different street corners with the booth number... In addition, I got Kinkos to donate my $800 banners and signage ( another $500 plus) because I donated 100% of all sales to a fund established in my late brother's name.
The only thing that stole my thunder: the Dali Lama was in town and there were two other street fairs. Great pr for me, no money in my pocket and I'm still broke...but it was a great experience and I suggest "authors for charity" pool their resources and get a booth next year!!!
